We're incredibly proud of this image. This rarely photographed deep-sky object is what's left of a supernova remnant that we can still see. This is our image of Sh2-224 - also known as the Rice Hat Nebula.
It's not often photographed because it's so faint and challenging to process. We projected 50 hours of integration time and kept 47 hours after removing unusable frames. It's red in color because it is full of Hydrogen Alpha, however, it also contains a bit of Oxygen III, which shows up as the color blue.
We combined the two files to create the end result - a nebula of rich red color with blue accents.
